Walking time: 3 hours – 900m elevation to the Galtenberg Saddle/”Skidepot” at approx. 2.000 m
At the Luegergraben car park cross the bridge to the west of the stream and walk up the forest track and the open slopes to the Kolbentalalm. Bear right crossing fields and hills to the ridge at approx. 1.800m. Follow the ridge in a southerly direction until you reach the steep Großer Galtenbergs’ north-western flank. For the very fit: in general, the snow conditions do not permit walking up to the Galtenberg peak; any snow is mostly blown away. You can hike the remaining 400m to the peak on foot from the „Skidepot“ – a large, prominent rock at approx. 2.000m. This is definitely the safest option.
Descent: same as ascent; experienced skiers can descend from the ridge bearing to the left of the peak (in a westerly direction) and over wide, open and steep slopes to the Farmkehralm. Continue on to the Greiteralm and out the Greiter Valley to Inneralpbach.
