At 2,030 metres, right next to the Hornbahn 2000 mountain station, the Top of Alpbachtal marks the highest point in the ski area. From the viewing platform, you can enjoy a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Inside, a cosy seating area with large glass fronts allows you to relax while immersing yourself in the Alpine scenery.
Just a few metres above, the snow heart awaits – a romantic photo spot high above the valley. On the funslope, the snow house delights visitors with its unusual shape, especially families and children. A short stop along pistes no. 43, 44, and 46 is also worth it, offering an incomparable view down to the village of Alpbach.
You should also take a step through the handcrafted wooden gate. Just a few steps from the Pöglbahn mountain station, or opposite the Kohlgrubenlift, it leads directly into the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau – a special little spot right in the middle of the ski area.
For an unforgettable experience and an exceptional photo, the summit cross on the Schatzberg is your “place to be”. Only a few minutes from the connecting lift’s mountain station, the summit is easily reached. Just below the Gernalm on piste no. 12, a particularly cosy wooden bench invites a pause. It’s the perfect spot to take a short ski break and enjoy the stunning views over the villages of the Wildschönau.
Another breathtaking backdrop can be found at the chapel on the Markbachjoch, located within sight of the mountain station, offering tranquillity and wide-ranging views over the surrounding peaks.
Alpbachtal and Wildschönau
In the Alpbachtal nine villages and 1 picturesque town enchant with their individual character. The most famous village is Alpbach, which is known as Austria's most beautiful village due to its uniform wooden building style. The smallest town in Austria, on the other hand, is Rattenberg, with just 400 inhabitants.
Four small villages can be discovered in the Wildschönau. Absolutely unique is Thierbach with its church, 2 inns and only a few houses. It is the ideal place for deceleration. The perfect entry point to the Ski Juwel is the rustic Auffach. The special charm of the beautiful valley is made up of the snow-covered farms.
Alpbachtal
With the Alpbachtal Card, you can experience even more winter magic – from guided winter hikes and torchlit walks to leisurely snowshoe tours.
Another truly special experience is the Rattenberg Advent: in Austria’s smallest town, Advent is celebrated in a very unique way. The streets glow warmly with candles, torches, and open fires, creating an enchanting atmosphere.

Wildschönau
In the Wildschönau, you can enjoy varied guided winter hikes – perfect for taking in the snow-covered landscape and discovering new favourite spots.
A highlight for families is the Drachental Family Park, with events such as the Family Advent in Drachental and the Dragon Winter Night, offering festive fun and plenty of activities for children.
